Accommodation Achiever AwardsProperty owners reach final of National Awards

Heidi Freeman and Jim Didolis from Freeman on Ford in Beechworth recently reached the finals of a national awards program run by industry association, the Accommodation Association of Australia.

Ms Freeman and Mr Didolis were competing with other members of the Australian accommodation industry to win the prestigious title of Property Owner of the Year 2014, as part of the 2014 Accommodation Achiever Awards.

Now in its third year, the Accommodation Achiever Awards is a unique program which focuses on recognising the core asset of an accommodation property – its team members. The Accommodation Achiever Awards strives to celebrate those who represent the best of what the industry has to offer as professional hosts, team members and leaders throughout the sector.

Property owner, Ms Freeeman, said they were thrilled to be selected as program finalists. In a highly competitive industry this acknowledgement represents a strong recommendation in itself.

The Accommodation Achiever Awards aims to uncover new industry talent and give the hardworking people of Australia’s accommodation industry an opportunity to shine.

“The Accommodation Association congratulates all of the finalists on their achievements. People awards recognise and reward the professionalism of individuals who embody the hospitable values at the core of the accommodation industry,” commented CEO, Richard Munro.

Trip Advisor Award 2013Beechworth B&B Best in Australia

ADVERTISER, Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Beechworth’s only 5 Star Bed and Breakfast has been named the top B&B in Australia in Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice 2013 awards, based on the ratings of people who have stayed at the B&B.

Freeman on Ford was also ranked third in the awards’ South Pacific B&B category.

Owners Heidi Freeman and Jim Didolis were pleased to be recognised as the leader in B&B’s in Australia.

The award describes Freeman on Ford as:
"A beautifully restored house with a wonderful atmosphere. Perfect hosts with delicious cooked breakfasts, afternoon high teas and late night coffees."

"We are delighted to represent Beechworth on the national stage and thank all our guests who have taken the time to rate us on Trip Advisor," Heidi Freeman said.

Ms Freeman said she is also very pleased that their efforts to deliver standards of service and facilities which are usually only accessed in city hotels had been valued by guests.

"This award also highlights the quality of accommodation on offer in Beechworth because there are many passionate providers who deliver a high standard of accommodation, which in itself, brings visitors to the town," she said.

Ms Freeman and Mr Didolis renovated the historic two-storey brick building which fronts Ford Street in Beechworth over two years, first opening the doors as a bed and breakfast in November 2003.

Freeman on Ford has held its 5 Star rating since 2005.

More recently Ms Freeman and Mr Didolis completed the renovation of the downstairs addition to the original building, which dated to the 1930s. This extension includes a private swimming pool and spa, three new bedrooms, a commercial kitchen, lounge room, an extended dining room and undercover parking.

"We have a passion for bringing visitors to Beechworth and a passion for history and have spent years restoring this building in keeping with the eras," Ms Freeman said.

Freeman on Ford has taken out numerous heritage awards for the building's restoration and has also been a leader in environmentally conscious policies within their business, having been the only Eco Friendly accredited Bed and Breakfast in Beechworth for many years. This accreditation is rated by AAA Tourism and involves the business adhering to numerous environmentally conscious practices.

Freeman on Ford Bed and Breakfast has four Victorian era rooms upstairs and features three 1930s classic rooms overlooking the new swimming pool and spa in a landscaped private garden.

The Age newspaper Travel Escape awards Freeman on Ford 19/20!

Sue Wallace settles in for cheesecake and tea at an opulent bed and breakfast.

If there's one place that's always intrigued me in Beechworth it's a grand building that was once the home of the Oriental Bank, where more than 5,000 Chinese put their savings in the 1870's.

As a child, I was spellbound by stories of gold-miners and the Chinese who flocked to the area to make their fortune.

As I step through the front doors of the former Oriental Bank, that in another life was also Australia's second convent for Brigandine nuns and then the home of the State Savings Bank of Victoria, nostalgia comes flooding back...

Bronze for Freeman on Ford at National Awards

AAA National Award WinnersFreeman on Ford, Beechworth's only 5 Star Bed and Breakfast came home with a bronze award from the Accommodation Association of Australia's (AAA) National Accommodation Industry Awards for Excellence in Sydney on Friday night.

Owners Heidi Freeman and Jim Didolis were pleased to be recognised among the top providers of 5 Star Hosted Accommodation in Australia.

Ms Freeman was also one of 11 industry personalities nominated for the Association's ACES Awards. These awards are presented to people living the values of Attitude, Commitment, Enthusiasm and Service (ACES) in the tourism industry.

"It was a great night and to come effectively third in the country behind two wonderful 5 Star experiences, was a real honor. The gold in this category went to a luxury bed and breakfast from Marysville which was obviously affected by the bushfires in 2009 and silver went to a West Australian business," Ms Freeman said.

"We are always delighted to represent Beechworth on the national stage and this was another great opportunity," she said.

Ms Freeman said the AAA awards differ from others in that the judging is shared equally between a written submission and an assessment by a mystery guest.

"Writing the submission is a major project as the information required by the Association is comprehensive. The mystery guest also provides an extensive report on maintenance, housekeeping, food, and the check-in and check-out experience," she said.

Chief Executive of the Accommodation Association of Australia, Lorraine Duffy said there were 138 finalists across the award categories.

"The businesses and people who won these awards overcame many worthy finalists and their success is a tribute to their commitment to excellence in every facet of what they do and in this case to the tourism industry in north east Victoria," Ms Duffy said.

Freeman on Ford offers luxury accommodation with four Victorian era upstairs guest rooms and two 1930s elegant guest rooms downstairs overlooking a private swimming pool and spa in landscaped gardens.

Council names Heidi 'Mover and Shaker'

As well as taking out two other awards, Heidi Freeman was named Indigo Shire Council's winner of the 'Heritage Mover and Shaker' award at the recent Heritage Awards night.

Council's Heritage Advisor, Deb Kemp said the inaugural 'Heritage Mover and Shaker' award is a special award and not one that will be regularly awarded.

"It is intended to honor those who have made an extra ordinary effort in preserving, maintaining and celebrating the special heritage that can be found within the Indigo Shire. In this instance Heidi has been tireless in her efforts to restore, preserve and promote the heritage of Beechworth. Heidi's passion and love of Beechworth has been deservedly recognised and it is with real gratitude that she has been nominated the first Heritage Mover and Shaker," Ms Kemp said.

"It is always a pleasure to work with Heidi as she has always paid the utmost attention to detail and always aims to keep the heritage values of the place her priority," she said.

Twenty-two awards were presented with Heidi Freeman also being named winner of the Best Restoration of an Historic Building including reconstruction and additions – Commercial section and a highly commended in the Gardens and Landscaping of a Heritage Building category.

Ms Freeman, who has been renovating historic buildings in Beechworth for many years and has a real interest in the history of each building, was delighted with the awards.

"It is really great to have your hard work recognised in this manner. The awards for the garden and the restoration are very pleasing but to be named the Heritage Mover and Shaker was a thrill," Ms Freeman said.

Ms Freeman has recently completed the renovation of Freeman on Ford, Beechworth's only 5 Star Bed and Breakfast and has also undertaken renovations of retail buildings in Beechworth.
